Fischer King in Garnet Home Opener
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -Swarthmore senior forward Abbie Fischer (Sudbury, Mass. / Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) score two goals to lead the Garnet to a 2-0 win over visiting Neumann in the 2007 home opener on Saturday afternoon.
Fischer, the team leader with three goals this season, notched her first score at 11:45, taking a feed from sophomore Hoa Pham (East Lansdowne, Pa. / Penn Wood). It is Pham's fifth point of the young season, placing her just behind Fischer among the team leaders.
Fischer added an insurance goal for the Garnet (2-1) late in the second half, tallying her 18th career goal at 57:24.
Swarthmore's offensive attack came fast and furious at the Knights (1-2), out-shooting the visitors 32-3 while holding a 15-3 edge in penalty corners.
Garnet first-year goalie Katie Ashmore (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) made three saves for her first career shutout. The Knights' goalie, Chelsea Ward (Willingboro, N.J. / Rancocas Valley) posted 15 saves for the visitors.
Swarthmore is at the beginning of a five-game homestand; the Garnet host Richard Stockton this coming Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m.
