Garnet Women Tennis Match Postponed Until Sunday

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Due to the lingering effects of the winter weather that has crushed the Philadelphia region, the match for the Swarthmore Women’s Tennis team – scheduled for Saturday, February 27 against Oberlin College – has been postponed to Sunday, February 28, at a time to be determined.

Garnet Men Take Second at Centennial Championships; Miller Strikes Gold With NCAA Time

LANCASTER, Pa. – On the final day of the Centennial Conference Championships, the Swarthmore College men’s swim team held on for a decisive second-place team finish with 732 points, 113 points behind host and champion Franklin & Marshall on Sunday evening from Lancaster.

On the women’s side, it was senior Anne Miller who stole the show once again for the Garnet, taking home a gold medal by clocking in with an NCAA A-cut time in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.14). As a team, the Garnet women finished in fifth place with 407 points.

Garnet Men Keep Pace at Day Two of Centennial Championships; Miller Takes Home Silver

LANCASTER, Pa. – It’s Day Two of the Centennial Conference championships, and the Swarthmore College men’s swimming teams is still within striking distance of a team championship.

Thanks in part to the strong swimming of junior Sterling Satterfield (2 bronze), sophomore Sam Bullard-Sisken (2 bronze) and freshman Tyler Hanson (1 silver) on Saturday evening from Franklin & Marshall, the men’s team finds itself in second place with 504 points, closely trailing F&M’s 570 points.

On the women’s side, it was senior Anne Miller stealing the spotlight once again, taking second place in the 100-yard butterfly (57.40) in a personal best and NCAA B-cut time.

Garnet Rout NYU in Season Opener 9-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore men’s tennis team (1-1) won its season opener in dominating fashion on Saturday night shutting out NYU 9-0 in the Mullan Center. Sophomore Zak Kelm led the Garnet in the number one singles match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

Wallwork and Company Knock Off NYU in Season Opener 5-4

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women’s tennis team (1-0) defeated NYU (0-3) 5-4 in its spring season opener on Saturday afternoon from the Mullan Center. Senior Rachel Wallwork paced the Garnet in singles action with an easy 6-3 and 7-5 victory to start the match.

Garnet Dive Into Day One of Centennial Championships; Benveniste Takes Third in 500 Freestyle

LANCASTER, Pa. – A strong start for Swarthmore College men’s swim team and the performance of freshman Jacob Benveniste highlighted the first day of the Centennial Conference Championships for the Garnet swim teams on Friday evening from Franklin & Marshall.

The Garnet men find themselves in second place with 207 points – trailing only the first place Diplomats (258) after the first day of competition. Benveniste was the lone Garnet swimmer to capture a top three finish, clocking in at 4:44.56 in the 500-yard freestyle.

WESTMINSTER, Md. – It’s a victory that’s been a long time coming for the Swarthmore College men’s basketball team (7-17, 6-11 CC).

Senior captain Matt Allen scored 17 points on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc while freshman Will Gates drained 17 points and pulled down 8 rebounds as the Garnet defeated McDaniel (8-16, 4-13 CC) 62-51 from the Gill Center on Wednesday night.

Garnet Comeback Not Enough as Hopkins Defeats Swat Women 64-54

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – A valiant comeback fell short for the Swarthmore College women’s basketball team (10-13, 7-11 CC), as the Garnet used a menacing full-court press to cut a 19-point halftime deficit down to four points in the final minutes, but visiting Johns Hopkins (13-9, 11-7 CC) shot an impressive 14-of-16 from the free throw line to seal the Blue Jay victory over the Garnet, 64-54, on Monday evening from Tarble Pavilion.
