Red Devils Defeat Swat Field Hockey 4-1

BOX SCORE

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Junior Sara McCabe scored a goal off freshman Sophia Agathis' Centennial Conference-leading ninth assist of the season, but the Garnet could not overcome a powerful Dickinson offensive attack, as the Swarthmore College field hockey team (5-8, 1-4) lost to Dickinson 4-1 from Clothier Field Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Agathis tied the game with a goal in the final seconds.

Agathis leads the Centennial Conference with nine assists.

Lauren Kelly paced the Red Devil offense with two goals, while Alex Borse and Jenny Saber each added a goal. Three of Dickinson's four goals came off rebounded shots in the front of the goal.

The Garnet made it interesting with McCabe's goal near the end of the half. With a perfect feed from Agathis at the top right of the circle, McCabe hammered home a goal form point-blank range to cut the lead to 2-1 with just two minutes remaining before halftime. The Garnet followed McCabe's goal with four corners and three shots on goal in the final two minutes of the first half, but just couldn't get the equalizer.

The Red Devils responded with two goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.

In goal for the Garnet, senior captain Gina Grubb made four saves.  Swat held an 11-8 advantage in corners.

Swarthmore returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to north to face Muhlenberg. Action is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
