Bears Overcome Garnet

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.-- Swarthmore freshman Jimmy Gill collected two base hits as the visiting Garnet fell to Ursinus 19-3 in Centennial Conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon.

The Bears (13-6 overall, 4-1 CC) jumped on the Garnet with 10 runs in the first two innings while cruising to their fourth win in the Centennial.

Swarthmore (2-13 overall, 0-5 CC) got on the board in the fourth inning when junior Scott Dalance reached and came around to score on a pair of Bears miscues.  Classmate Andy Bender later doubled in the inning to score freshman infielder Thomas Nakamura to make it 10-2 Ursinus.

Luis Serrano picked up his second win of the season for Ursinus, pitching five innings, allowing five hits while striking out five.

Garnet starter Justin Chen (0-4) took the loss for Swarthmore.

Swarthmore completes the home-and-home affair with Ursinus on Friday, April 6 at 3:30 p.m. on Clothier Fields
