<p class="normal">Elle a demandé qu’il lui montre les mers; elle sait seulement que la mer est bleue sur les cartes de géographie; elle est déçue… La mer Méditerranée est toute petite et fermée avec des pays autour. <br>
- On dit le bassin méditerranéen.<br>
- Comme un bassin avec de l’eau dedans pour les enfants? Regarde les autres, elles sont pleines d’îles et tellement grandes. C’est ça des océans?</p>
<p class="normal">Une conversation entre une mère et son fils. Le fils revient dans la maison natale, au pays de l’immigration, dans une banlieue française. Il ne dit presque rien. C’est la mère qui parle. Elle a beaucoup à dire dans sa langue où glissent des mots français. Elle lui parle de la maison, du père, des filles, de lui, son fils aîné,… l’épouse idéale, les femmes françaises. La religion, l’Islam… </p>
